Geriatric fellow, program director help at senior expo

More than 150 people attended the Senior & Caregiver Expo, hosted by Hurley’s Senior Center of Excellence and the Valley Area Agency on Aging Saturday, Sept.12, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint.

The workshop provided expert information on Alzheimer’s disease, advance directives, caregiver stress, bath & bathing tips, proper lifting techniques, when & how to choose a care facility, and how to avoid scams that target seniors. An immunization station offered flu shots, and another station offered free blood-pressure measurements.

Attendees also could ask questions at special stations, “Ask the Physician” and “Ask the Pharmacist.” The former was staffed by Amy Daros DO, director of Hurley’s Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program, and Sriranjani Bajjuri MD, the geriatric fellow for the 2015-2016 academic year. Bajjuri is a 2015 graduate of Hurley’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Speakers included attorney Carl Bekofske, who addressed financial issues, and cognitive therapist David Hall PhD, who delivered the keynote address, Coping, Caring, Connecting.
