Internal Medicine, Second-Year Resident
Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Kathmandu University, Nepal
What brought you to Michigan?
I came to stay in Michigan in 2015 after I got matched at HMC. It is a great place to be in. The structured residency training program, advanced medical practice, ample research opportunities and limitless potential for career growth make any aspiring medical student come here for the training.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I remember a quote from Sir William Osler, “We are here to add what we can to, not to get what we can from, Life.” Through the practice of medicine, I get an opportunity to make people smile, and it has been a privilege.
My parents are back in Nepal. Thanks to Skype and Viber that I get to talk to then every now and then for free! We are 4 siblings, and 3 of us are here. We are waiting for a reunion later this year.
What do you do for fun?
I am a goalie on our residents’ soccer team. However, I haven’t been able to prevent them from the losses lately. Besides that, I like to watch movies, drink beer and travel.
What do you like most about Hurley and/or the mid-Michigan area?
Hurley is home away from home for me. I have terrific friends here. It is a great work place. We learn something new every day. The place is itself so diverse that we get to meet people from all over the world and get to know each other. Mid-Michigan is beautiful, and driving up north is a homecoming feeling.
Medicine is full of mysteries. I read about life and medicine 50 years ago. It is inspiring to see how much we have achieved in these last few years. And the truth is, we still have to do more. We still do not have understanding and treatment of so many diseases.
