Pediatrics, First-Year Resident
Medical School: Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Grand Rapids Campus, Grand Rapids, Mich.
What brought you to Michigan?
I am from Michigan and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else!! I am a homebody and want to be close to my family. I lover experiencing all 4 seasons, though winter could be a little shorter!
Why did you choose your specialty?
I am pediatrics through and through. My parents fostered around 65 children and adopted 12. I have 14 siblings and absolutely love children. I grew up around children who were victims of abuse and neglect and have known since I was 5 that I was going to be a pediatrician. I am so happy to finally be living out my dream and to be able to do it with the children of Flint!
I am married and my husband’s name is Cody. We bought the house next door to my parents where I grew up. We are expecting our first child, a baby girl named Charlie, this July!!! We have a pool and are always down for a pool party!!!
When you’re not working, what do you do for fun?
Movies!!!! I am obsessed with all things movies and TV. I own more movies than I can count, in physical disc form, of course! My movie shelf is far bigger than bookshelf!!
What you love most about Hurley & Flint area:
Flint Kids!!! The children of Flint are truly resilient and amazing! We have the ability to make a huge impact for our patients in so many ways, and we do it all day every day!!!
Favorite movies, coffee shops, etc.?
I could never pick a favorite movie: it’s too much like picking a favorite child!!! My most recent love is for “Me before You,” and I will forever live for all things Harry Potter!! … Starbucks is life.
Most surprising thing about Hurley:
I wasn’t entirely surprised but more so extremely impressed with the group of residents we work with. When you join Hurley Children’s Hospital, you are joining a family. Without a doubt we are there for each other and do everything we can to support one another. And we have the cutest kids!
Special talents, hobbies?
I am an amateur photographer on the side, and I am ordained to officiate weddings. I absolutely love photography and party-planning. I joke that one day I will open a company called “Weddings and Photography by Dr. B.”
