Pediatrics, Second-Year Resident
Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine, Vieux Fort, St Lucia (in the West Indies region)
What brought you here to Michigan?
Came to Michigan for residency.
Why did you choose your specialty?
I chose Pediatrics because there is hope in Pediatrics. Our kids are tough and they have the ability to bounce back from some of the most serious social, environmental, and medical situations. They are the window into preventive medicine because if we work to have healthy kids, we will have healthy adults. Also they keep me young!
Family fun facts:
I am recently married to this great guy named Bayo who I coupled-matched into residency with. He is a Family Medicine resident at McLaren. Our families are all over the place, from New York, Toronto, Jamaica, Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique, UK and more.
When you’re not working, what do you do for fun?
Fishing! Also, cooking, eating and of course sleeping.
What you love most about Hurley & Flint area:
I love Hurley for the people. The people of Hurley are what make Hurley amazing. Everyone is compassionate and friendly and proud of what this hospital stands for. In particular I love Flint because it is filled with people who are empowered and want to build it up. The people of Flint are resilient, and are focused on rejuvenating this beautiful historic city.
What inspires you:
So many things, but mostly the kids I work with daily. When they get better and start to smile and give you high fives, you just feel good about what you are doing!
Your toughest challenge in working toward your goals:
I don’t think I can say I have achieved all of my goals yet, and there are constant challenges. All I can do is try my best and not let the challenges keep me down.
What do you miss most about home?
I miss my parents the most. I keep up with them on the phone and Whatsapp groups. I try to visit whenever I can also.
