16 Hurley projects in Flint regional research forum

Comic books, hands-free baby-carrying slings, Strep. dermatitis, pregnant trauma patients, dedicated trauma nursing staff, breast cancer screening, glycemic control, and priapism with antipsychotic use were some of the topics covered by Hurley researchers at the March 4, 2024, Flint Community Research Forum, hosted by Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Flint Campus.

2nd-place research award

One Hurley research team took home one of two honors in the "research" category of submissions:

Madugodaralalage Gunaratne MD, a third-year Hurley Internal Medicine resident, orally presented Racial and Gender Disparities in Crdiovascular Disease Risk Factor Modification in Patients Attending an Outpatient Clinic, which took a second-place award in the Research Category.

Gunaratne's coauthors were: Su Khine MD, Yasaman Navari MD, Adila Mustafa MD, Matthew Heussner DO, Ann Sedeeq MD, Deepesh Yadav MD, Louis Fogg PhD, Ali Zreik MD, and the late Ghassan Bachuwa MD. Heussner was a Transitional Year resident at Hurley in 2022-2023. The others are all from the Internal Medicine Residency program, with Fogg and Zreik as faculty members and Bachuwa as the former program director.
