7 graduate from Hurley Peds Residency

Congrats to seven physicians for graduating from Hurley’s three-year Pediatrics Residency Program on June 6, 2025, in Merliss Brown Auditorium, Hurley Medical Center. Program Director Gwendolyn Reyes MD presented the diplomas.

  • Banerjee Award. For the graduating Pediatric or Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatric resident who best exemplifies the professional behavior, clinical excellence, and commitment to lifelong learning that is so valued by Dr. Amitabha Banerjee. Selected by faculty and nursing.

  • Mathias Award. For the resident who has the most improved in-training exam and who demonstrates characteristics exemplified by Hurley’s first pediatric resident (Berton Mathias MD) in his pediatric career, such as advocacy for children and families, excellent teamwork, good listening skills, humility, and excellent primary care skills. Selected by faculty.
    • Tim Tomy MD

  • Tauscher Excellence in Teaching Award. Named after John Tauscher MD, who was a Pediatrics resident at Hurley 1958-1960 and then practiced medicine and served as faculty and in administrative functions Pediatrics in the community until he retired in 1991.
    • Asaad Beshish MD, pediatric cardiologist
