Advocating for children
Dr Tayler's recent research and advocacy has focused on preventing smoking and vaping in children - and on bringing legislation up to date to be congruent with public health data. Michigan is one of 10 states that does not require retailers to be licensed to sell tobacco. Dr. Tayler testified at the House Families, Children and Seniors Committee on Nov. 12, 2024, on Michigan HB 6002, which would require a license to sell tobacco and nicotine products in a retail setting.

When Dr Brittany Tayler was selected as the 2022-2024 Alice Hamilton Scholar, Hurley folks were happy for many reasons. Not only would she bring her public health interests and skills to the Flint community, but she also would serve as a faculty member for two Hurley residency programs. Dr Tayler will be precepting in the Hurley Children's Clinic at the Flint Farmers' Market, downtown Flint, and also in the Hurley MOB Family Medicine Clinic in the Medical Office Building at Hurley's main campus.

The two-year Alice Hamilton program is part of the MSU-Hurley Children's Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative. Alice Hamilton - an American physician, researcher and author who made great strides in social justice - is considered the mother of the field of occupational health. Alice Hamilton scholars complete public-health training, mentored research, and clinical care within the PPHI. They earn a master's degree in public health.

Fun & Wellbeing

I have two wonderful cats that live here with me in Michigan, and the remainder of my family is in northern New York. I enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, and running in my spare time. I manage my own well-being by scheduling time everyday for myself and continuing to practice saying "no!"
