What brought you to Michigan?

What brought me to Michigan is the Hurley OBGYN program itself! I didn’t specifically seek out Michigan, but I was looking for programs that were IMG-friendly and offered strong clinical training—and Hurley stood out right away.

Since moving here, I’ve really come to appreciate what Michigan has to offer. I enjoy the small-town feel, the open spaces, and being surrounded by nature. It’s a refreshing change from the crowded, concrete-heavy cities, and I’ve found that this kind of environment suits me well—both personally and during the busy life of residency.

Why did you choose your specialty?

I fell in love with OBGYN during medical school. It’s one of the few specialties where you get to be part of some of the most meaningful moments in a person’s life—whether it’s guiding someone through pregnancy, delivering a baby, or supporting a patient through challenging decisions. That connection is incredibly special.

I love that OBGYN lets you build long-term relationships with patients while also offering a mix of medicine, surgery, and advocacy. It also demands empathy, strong communication, and the ability to show up for patients during vulnerable times—skills I’ve always wanted to grow. This field brings together everything I value in medicine, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

When you're not working, what do you like to do for fun?

I really enjoy being outdoors—running and biking are my favorite ways to unwind, especially when I can explore new trails around town. When the weather isn’t great, I usually stick to a home workout or spend time cooking, which I find relaxing. Free evenings often mean watching TV with my husband, which is one of my favorite ways to slow down after a busy day. I also enjoy spending time with my co-residents when our schedules align—it’s always nice to catch up and relax together when we can.

What do you miss most about home?

What I miss most is definitely my family - especially my parents and grandparents. Most of them are still back home in India, and not being able to see them regularly has been one of the harder parts of moving to the U.S. I always look forward to my next visit and try to make the most of the time we get together.

In the meantime, I keep in touch through regular FaceTime calls whenever our time zones line up. One small but meaningful habit that's helped me stay connected is exchanging snaps with family and friends. It’s just a quick moment from each of our days, but over time, it creates a sense of shared routine and closeness—even from across the world.
