Where are you from originally?

Vietnam

Medical training:

I completed my medical school in Vietnam at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

When did you come to the U.S.?

I immigrated to the U.S with my family in 2018. We believe that U.S is the best place for our future. After the match, I came to Michigan for about one week. I really like the Midwest region, and Michigan is one of the best in the area. I got a lot of recommendations about Michigan from my senior also.

Why did you choose your specialty?

My passion is to become a general practitioner, and Internal Medicine is a perfect specialty for my future goal.

Family?

My parents are currently living in Seattle. My older brother is in Vietnam with his own family. I am currently living by myself in Michigan.

When you're not working, what do you do for fun?

Usually I go to the grocery and prepare meals for the week. I also listen to music and do some workouts to keep my health in good condition. I also enjoy hanging out with friends in local restaurants and trying out new cuisines.

What do you like about Hurley and the Flint area?

I think the area around Hurley is perfect for residency. Everyday I can go to work on time without worrying about traffic. Hurley also has a very good support system for every resident.

What inspires you?

I believe it is the work that I am doing everyday. I am grateful that I am able to join Hurley Medical Center and work everyday toward my goal to become an independent general practitioner.

Toughest challenge?

It was the transition from Vietnam to the U.S. Working toward my goal from absolute zero was a very challenging. transition. I had to adapt to a new culture, learn English and help out financially to afford our rent. But through all this, I never gave up on my dream: to become a general practitioner.

What do you miss most about home?

Apparently it is Vietnamese food. I love all Vietnamese food that may not be available around the Michigan area. I try to call my family after work and tell them about the work I do on that day.

Favorite film?

My all-time favorite movie is Interstellar. I really enjoy the message about love in the movie. There are no barriers for love, even if it is space or time.

The quote inspires me everyday to overcome the challenging journey ahead to achieve my future goal.
