What do you like most about working with learners?
Their energy and fresh outlook on medicine and clinical practices.
Family?
My husband, of 32 years, and I live in Flushing, Mich. We have two married sons. One is a high school math teacher and lives in South Bend, Ind., along with his beautiful wife and precious 8-month old son. My other son is an emergency medicine resident physician in Jackson, Mich. He and his lovely wife have two adorable boys, a 3-year old and a 5-month old. When all nine of us are together, it is a treasured time full of laughter, joy and long-lasting memories.
When you're not working, what do you do for fun?
I like to go camping with my family. My husband and I also fitness walk and bicycle. I enjoy reading and shopping.
Favorite aspect of Hurley?
I love the culture at Hurley. I feel like I am part of a bigger family and am proud of the community we service.
Toughest challenge?
I set very high standards for myself, and sometimes perfectionism can get in the way of accomplishing the tasks at hand. I have learned that not everything has to be perfect as I see it, and opening my mind to others' ideas can accomplish many team goals successfully.
Favorites:
- Movie: Wizard of Oz
- Day out: I love to eat at Zehnder's in Frankenmuth and take in the whole experience and beauty of this German community.
- Weekend trip: My favorite place to relax is Frankfort, Mich. This is near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is breathtaking. The atmosphere in northern Michigan is very calming and tranquil.
Top 5 Favorites about living in the Flint area/Michigan:
- The Great Lakes
- Change of Seasons
- This is where most of my family lives
- You can have big city experiences or quiet woods surroundings all in the same state
- The universities and cultural area in Flint
Hobbies:
I like to do crafts and always love a challenge of trying a new craft, whether it be sweatshirt painting, cross stitch, embroidery, or wreath-making. My latest passion is making digital scrapbooks. I enjoy taking photos from family trips or special occasions such as weddings or showers and arranging them digitally with stickers, quotes, etc. in a photo album. This is a great way to remember wonderful experiences and share them with the family.
Favorite way to keep work-life balance manageable:
I enjoy exercising with my husband, whether it be fitness-walking, hiking, bicycling, or kayaking. This is a good way to relieve any stress from the day and give us a good chance to catch up with each other about what is going on in our daily lives.
