What brought you to Michigan?

A few years ago, I lived in Michigan while my husband was doing his IM residency in Hurley Medical Center, and I was also lucky to have had multiple clinical experiences in Michigan. We loved the areac and we decided to come back for my residency and raise a family in here.

Why did you choose your specialty?

I have always loved kids. I found providing care for children really rewarding. I also enjoy their energy and found their curiosity and cuteness very refreshing. I love building long-term relationships with kids and their families, and hopefully I can make positive impact in their lives.

Family

We love to call Michigan home, particularly Grand Blanc, where I currently live. I am married to a wonderful supportive husband who is currently working in Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, and I am the proud mother of two beautiful boys: ages 6 and 1 (as of the first year of my residency at Hurley).

When you're not working, what do you do for fun?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends in the outdoors, exploring nature. I also enjoy indoor activity when its winter time, like board games, bowling, arcades, and watching movies.

What do you like most about Hurley:

I love Hurley, I truly feel supported and cared for in Hurley. My senior colleagues are always helpful and always answering my questions. In here, it feels like being a part of a large family.

What inspires you?

I have always being inspired my parents, who set an inspiring role model for me and my siblings.

Toughest challenge:

Coming into the US and getting to explore a new culture was a bit challenging in the beginning; however, with time and living in different cities and making friends from all walks of life made it easier. Also, balancing and managing studying, working, and taking care of my family in the same time can be difficult sometimes. However, with a good support system, and prioritizing my schedule, it can easily be done, and different goals can be achieved.

What do you miss most about home?

I miss my family the most. I try to call and video-call them all the time.

Favorite books & music:

  • My favorite book is The Secret.
  • I love Sudanese music.

Favorite quotation:

You are always at the right place and in the right time, even if you don't think so.

Favorite things about the mid-Michigan area:

  • We get enjoy all seasons of the year
  • Affordable
  • No traffic
  • Good place to raise a family

Special hobbies:

I love and enjoy cooking for family and friends - I also enjoy swimming.

Favorite ways to keep work-life balance manageable:

I do all the activities that are mentioned in these questions.

Would you choose Hurley again if you were applying to residency programs again?

Yes I would!
