Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 1-year Transitional Year program, which begins July 1, applicants must meet the minimum entrance requirements by the start date of the program:
- Must start residency program within 5 years after receiving their medical degree
- Must meet all eligibility and selection criteria of resident guidelines established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
- Medical degree graduation certificate (prior to start of residency program)
- Proof of a valid ECFMG certificate (where applicable)
- Valid Michigan medical license (prior to start of residency program)
In ERAS, submit:
- Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Dean’s letter (or equivalent)
- Official medical school transcripts
- Personal Statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- USMLE Step 1, 2 CK, and 2 CS scores (or COMLEX equivalent)

- Regular Track [Transitional|1307999P0 (Preliminary)] - 3 positions
Acceptance to (and successful completion of) this one-year program means that, upon graduation, you will be prepared to enter categorical residency programs that require or value a preliminary year

Acceptance to the Categorical track includes a linked position at the Dermatology & Cosmetology Center Dermatology Residency, Flint, Mich. Upon successful completion of the TY program, you will automatically advance to the dermatology residency in July 2027. See the Dermatology residency website for more information.
